Some moments don’t come with subtitles. Someone turns away before taking a sip of soju. A character switches to formal speech right in the middle of an argument. A friend taps someone on the back and the whole room shifts. These scenes happen fast, and no one stops to explain them—because to Koreans, they don’t need explaining.
That’s exactly where this site comes in.
I’m Kinu, a Korean born and raised in Namyangjoo, Gyeonggi-do, and I’ve been on the receiving end of those questions more times than I can count. Friends from outside Korea, people I’ve met online, strangers in comment sections—they all notice the same things and ask the same kinds of questions. This site is my attempt to answer them properly, not with textbook definitions, but with the context that actually makes the behavior make sense.
Right now, the focus is on culture: the unspoken rules, the social signals, the language nuances that K-dramas show but rarely explain. Over time, this will grow into something more. I travel around Korea regularly—small towns, local markets, neighborhood trails that don’t show up on tourist maps—and I’ll be bringing those places here too.
