Where Will You Spend Halloween in Seoul on October 31?

Where should you go if you are spending Halloween in Seoul? Before suggesting a neighborhood, I would ask what kind of evening you want. In autumn 2025, a couple on Reddit’s Korea travel forum asked for ideas because they liked scary things but did not want to party. Another traveler wanted dinner with their mother and asked how to avoid neighborhoods full of parties.

People visiting on the same date can want very different evenings.

I reached middle age without ever going to a Halloween party. I associated it with dressing up as a ghost and going drinking, and it never interested me. I cannot offer a tour of clubs I have visited or streets I have walked in costume. What I can do is separate the options for people looking for a party from those who want an ordinary evening out.

Where should you start looking for Halloween in Seoul?

If you want to see costumes and enjoy the streets after dark, you can start with event announcements from venues in Hongdae and Itaewon. A neighborhood name alone does not give you a booked party or an official street festival. Choose a bar or club you want to visit, then check the date and entry requirements announced by that particular venue.

Travelers have written about seeing people in costume in Hongdae. One traveler who moved on to Busan in late October 2025 said they had seen costumes in Hongdae the previous weekend and asked about a similar atmosphere in Busan. Someone describing a 2024 stay in Hongdae, however, found Halloween night much busier than an ordinary weekend and felt overwhelmed. The scene one visitor enjoys watching can make getting back to a hotel difficult for someone else.

Itaewon has international visitors and distinctive restaurants, but my first thought is how crowded and complicated it can feel. I would not tell you that Halloween means you have to go there. Deciding whether you want dinner at a particular restaurant or admission to a party makes planning your route easier.

Since the 2022 Itaewon tragedy, discussions of Halloween have also involved crowd safety and remembrance. Seoul has strengthened its crowd detection and on-site response systems since then. That does not mean a neighborhood is always quiet, or that the presence of staff makes it safe to enter a crowd. The change I notice personally is a greater sensitivity to places where large numbers of people gather, rather than a particular change in the festive atmosphere itself.

What should you check before choosing a theme park?

Halloween in Seoul travelers check a phone together at a table beside their accommodation window.
Check the details together before deciding on a theme park visit.

Other Reddit users suggested theme parks and horror attractions to the couple who did not want a party. Lotte World came up, although that suggestion drew on someone’s memory of an earlier zombie theme. Photographs from an old visit and this year’s program need to be treated separately.

If you are considering a theme park within Seoul, Lotte World Adventure in Jamsil is one possibility. This guide does not establish that any particular Halloween show or horror attraction is running in 2026. If the seasonal atmosphere is your reason for visiting, check the official seasonal information and performance schedule for your date before buying admission. Going for the rides and going for a particular seasonal event require different preparation.

You can gather the practical details in one place before deciding:

  • For a theme park, check opening hours, performance times, closed attractions, and what your ticket includes on your visit date. Lotte World’s official ticket guidance excludes some separately charged facilities, so do not assume every additional experience is included.
  • For a bar or club, ask that venue about the event date, admission price and inclusions, reservations, identification, and dress requirements. Rules from another business may not apply.
  • If you are bringing a costume or props, read the facility’s rules about what you can wear or bring inside. An outfit you can wear on the street may not be allowed everywhere.
  • For the journey home, check a route between your destination and accommodation. Last trains vary by station and direction; one general closing time for the Seoul subway will not be enough to plan around.

This guide to choosing a place draws on material checked on October 20, 2026. Event names and prices that were not confirmed for this year have not been presented as a fixed schedule. If an event catches your eye in an older review, look for a current announcement before building your evening around it.

Can you simply go out for dinner?

For Halloween in Seoul, a couple share a restaurant table as she lifts noodles and he holds a spoon over his bowl.
An ordinary dinner is another way to spend the evening together.

For me, Halloween has always been a day without a special party. Being Korean and finding the custom unfamiliar does not mean I expect international visitors to feel the same way. Equally, I cannot assume every visitor wants to party. The traveler asking about a quiet dinner with their mother was looking for something quite different.

If a friend asked me about other options, I might suggest spending the evening in Sinchon, Sincheon, or Jamsil. Those suggestions do not come from attending Halloween parties there, and I do not really know where international visitors most enjoy going out. I see them as possibilities for choosing a dinner spot without assuming Itaewon is compulsory.

Moving to another neighborhood does not guarantee quiet streets, either. Sinchon appeared in Seoul’s past Halloween crowd management material. Rather than labeling an entire neighborhood safe or uncrowded, check the restaurant’s location, whether you can reserve, and the flow of people around it.

If parties do not interest you, dinner at a restaurant with an easy journey back to your accommodation is enough for an evening. Leaving a costume out of your suitcase does not leave a hole in your itinerary.

When should you turn back from a crowded street?

During Halloween in Seoul, a woman points toward clear pavement while her companion turns beside a crowded street.
Choose the open route when the street ahead becomes crowded.

Before leaving, check crowd conditions around your destination and the route you plan to take. Follow any access restrictions or instructions from staff on the ground. If a street is blocked, avoid automatically turning into a narrow side alley to get around it.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s guidance calls for care on narrow or sloping streets. It advises leaving the crowded area when walking slows down or you begin making bodily contact with other people. If you feel in danger, call 112 or 119. Before moving farther in to find a place for a photograph, consider whether you can still walk out under your own control.

If you expect to travel late, decide how to get back to your accommodation before going out. You can also read the guide to safety on Seoul’s streets at night. Agree on a meeting place outside the crowded alleys in case you become separated from your companions.

For a party, check the event announcement; for dinner, choose the restaurant and the route home first. If the street becomes so crowded that walking is difficult, cut the sightseeing short and leave the congested stretch.

FAQ

Do you have to go to Itaewon for Halloween?

You do not have to. If you want a party, check announcements from individual venues in Hongdae or Itaewon; a theme park or dinner is another option. My first thought about Itaewon is how crowded and complicated it can feel. Choose a place after deciding why you are going and how you will get back.

Is Lotte World holding a Halloween event this year?

This guide has not confirmed a particular Halloween program for 2026. Before booking, check the official seasonal information and performance schedule for your visit date instead of expecting the same program described in an old zombie event review. Check whether separately charged facilities are included, too.

Where can you spend the evening if Halloween parties do not interest you?

You can have an ordinary dinner at a restaurant with an easy journey back to your accommodation. My suggestions of Sinchon, Sincheon, and Jamsil are not based on personal party experiences, and they do not guarantee quiet streets. Choose according to the actual business you want to visit and the crowd conditions around it.

Is it okay not to wear a costume?

If you are going out for dinner or ordinary sightseeing, there is no reason to prepare a costume. If you plan to attend a particular party, check that venue’s dress and entry requirements. The same rules do not apply everywhere.

What should you do if it becomes too crowded?

Take care on narrow and sloping streets, and leave the congested area when your walking pace slows or you begin making bodily contact with other people. Follow instructions on the ground, and call 112 or 119 if you feel in danger. Check your transport home in advance as well.
